Conversation - A dying art

Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee and just as hard to sleep after.

Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Gift from the Sea

When was the last time you engaged in a lengthy conversation with someone?

Do you recall a recent exchange that resonated with you for days and facilitated personal discovery?

Have you, in the recent past, spoken candidly, unfiltered, and perhaps lightened the burden on your mind?

With the increasing prevalence of text messaging and a reluctance to engage in voice-to-voice communication (let alone face-to-face interaction), is conversation gradually fading away? For those of us who came of age before the era of SMS (though not that long ago), conversing with friends and family held (holds) a special significance. We eagerly anticipated gatherings and many of my school and college peers will fondly remember the banter we shared.

However, the generation raised on platforms like Snapchat, WhatsApp, and their ilk is gradually commodifying conversation. In this insightful piece, Tom White delves deeply into this phenomenon. Read it thoughtfully, reflect upon it, and perhaps your next conversation will be truly enriching.
