Dreaming and Science Fiction

I have been always attracted to science fiction since school days. Arthur C Clarke and his epic space voyage stories were my favourites. The last decade has given us a good stream of sci-fi books.

Here are a few good sci-fi books I read in the last few years

- Three Body Problem trilogy: Written by Chinese author Cixin Liu. It's a mind expanding series on various fronts. Don't miss the last book.

- Ted Chiang and his books (Stories of your life and others, Exhalation). These are short sci-fi stories.

- Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. This is the recent one by the author of The Martian. Good story telling. Engaging in every way.

- NK Jemisin and her trilogy (starts with The Fifth Season). She won the Hugo award for three years straight for this series (equivalent to Oscars in Sci-fi writing).

What does dreaming have to do with sci-fi writing?

Jemisin in an interview to Newyorker reveals that she is inspired by her dreams to build worlds in her novels.

Isn't it true that all of us have a sci-fi experience every night? We swim, float, fly, travel, and experience much more; in worlds we create. Something to think about it...
